Divine Connection

Yesterday is probably my most benign-turned-most toxic workload in the ward. I thought this is going to be a boring day, but I am so dead wrong.
Most of the patients that I’ve handled are already for discharge. One of which I took care of since her admission and I’ve been with her through her pains and rests, she was like my third grandmother and she told me that she’s going to miss me. I just told her to take care of herself and always pray. She has Stage III Cervical Cancer.
Another one is a much healthier woman who gave me a big plastic filled with balut [a Filipino delicacy] and she thanked me for attending to her needs. But that’s my job and I’m just doing it for her welfare. It was fun, and she told me she’ll visit me every now and then if she has the time.
Yesterday was tiring, and I am on my night shift later but all in all I’m starting to adjust and immerse myself into this work, this calling I have chosen- which is being a caring, competent nurse.
